A Brief History
The Royal Albert Hall stands as a remarkable architectural landmark, with its origins rooted in the inspiration drawn from the 1851 Great Exhibition – a global showcase of human achievements in industry, science, and the arts.
The ambitious undertaking, crafted a series of permanent structions celebrating the arts and sciences, received full support from Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria laid the first foundation stone in 1867 and declared the building open in 1871. Initially, the hall was to be called the Central Hall of Arts and Sciences, but Queen Victoria changed it to commemorate her late husband.

Today, the area of South Kensington is known as Albertopolis. Aligned with Prince Albert’s vision, it is home to educational and cultural sites, including Imperial College London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Royal College of Art.
Inspired Design
Designers, Captain Francis Fowke and Major-General Henry Y. D. Scott drew influence from ancient amphitheaters, which inspired the immense oval shape. Today, the building is Grade I listed and can accommodate up to 5,272 guests.
Events to Remember
Since the hall opened, it has hosted a diverse event schedule and attracted the finest talent worldwide. From the magical Cirque du Soleil to the captivating performances of international acts, the Royal Albert Hall has events to suit everyone. Each year, the venue hosts the BBC Proms with 84 concerts featuring more than 3,000 global musicians. But the hall presents more than concerts. Other events on the schedule include sports, film premiers, dancing championships, strongman competitions, boxing, and more.
